POSITION PURPOSE
The Career Academy- Career Development Coordinator’s (CA-CDC) role is to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) Academies and to provide and coordinate career development services for students participating in the Academy. The CA-CDC works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services. CA-CDCs facilitate linkages with parents, business/industry, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to postsecondary education and employment. The CA-CDC is responsible for overall management and administration, including program and staff development, recruitment procedures, internships, reporting, local expansion, marketing, and student development and achievement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
Ability to analyze data to make short and long-range decisions about Career Academy.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, school administrators, teachers, support staff, Career Advisory Board members and other stakeholders
Strong interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s Degree and current license in any Career and Technical Education Program Area
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid license in Career and Technical Education Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of the Career Development Facilitator course available through the NC Workforce Development Training Center (in cooperation with NC DPI)
One year of work experience related to business, industry, or labor within the past five years OR one year as a coordinator of work-based learning in a Career and Technical Education program area OR one year work experience in school counseling.

A. MAJOR FUNCTION: Career Development
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate career development services for Academy students
Promote career awareness, exploration, and career development plans for each Academy student which is focused and adaptable to change
Provide career development, occupational, labor market, nontraditional career and postsecondary information for Academy students
B. MAJOR FUNCTION: Preparatory Services
Responsibilities include:
Assist Academy students with selection of appropriate core academic and CTE courses for the Academy
Assists Academy students in classroom, small groups and or individual sessions with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans
Provide and coordinate the administration of career assessment instruments to help Academy students identify individual interests, abilities, aptitudes, values and skills
Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities to Academy students
Assist Academy students in articulating their strengths and attributes in relation to postsecondary education and employment opportunities
Assist in the development/training of 21st Century Skills in Academy CTE and core classes
C. MAJOR FUNCTION: Transition Services
Responsibilities include:
Facilitate work-based learning opportunities for Academy students
Provide and coordinate activities with Academy faculty and Advisory Board to integrate career research projects, communication skills, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and presentation skills (employability skills) into the existing core academic and Career and Technical Education (CTE) curricula for Academy students
Promote and coordinate curriculum integration of CTE and core-academic studies
Utilize technology and online services for implementing the Career Academy Development Program
Facilitate School-To-Career transition through work-based learning programs
D. MAJOR FUNCTION: Partnerships
Responsibilities include:
Establish and facilitate business, education and community partnerships through the Advisory Board that provide opportunities for Academy students and support CTE and the Academy
Serve as a liaison with the Career Academy Advisory Board and parent booster group
Coordinate the Advisory Board for the Academy with the board chair
Coordinate Academy staff requests for partnership support services
Communicate with the school’s Student Service Team chaired by the Dean of Student Services
Stay informed about and have input to the school’s leadership team
Meet regularly with Academy (both core and career academy theme-CTE) faculty in Professional Learning Teams (PLT)
Coordinate Academy staff requests for partnership support services
Network with business, industry, post-secondary institutions, PTSA, public agencies, and civic and community organizations
Attend Academy’s Advisory Board meetings and local and regional career academy meetings
E. MAJOR FUNCTION: Professional Development
Responsibilities include:
Participate in professional organizations, meetings, and conferences at local, state, and national levels as appropriate and feasible for professional growth and development
Engage in professional growth and development opportunities to keep abreast of current and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workplace
Attend business/education partnership meetings/conferences at the state and national level as appropriate and feasible
F. MAJOR FUNCTION: Student Development and Achievement
Responsibilities include:
Assists Academy teachers, parents/guardians and Academy Advisory Board in interpreting and understanding Academy student data
Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist Academy students with educational and career planning
Monitors Academy students’ academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions
